AER 6th Summit 2024: Innovation, Talent, and Perspectives in Robotics from Vigo

An enriching experience that reaffirms our commitment to innovate and actively contribute to the advancement of robotics in Spain.

On November 7, we had the pleasure of attending the AER 6th Summit, the sixth edition of this important conference organized by the Spanish Robotics Association (AER), of which we are members.

This event, held at the Escola de Enxeñería Industrial of the University of Vigo, brought together experts, industry leaders, and students for a full day immersed in robotics and automation.

Reception and presentation of INSIGHT 2024

The event began with the reception of guests and the presentation of INSIGHT 2024, a report that explores robotics trends for the coming year.

As every year, the report highlights emerging technologies and their expected impact on the industrial sector, including areas in which we at Binarial are deeply involved, such as advanced automation and applied artificial intelligence.

Female talent in the Galician industry

A key moment of the event was the roundtable “Female talent in the Galician industry,” moderated by Sara Calvo, coordinator of AER Automation’s Moongirl project.

The panel featured leading professionals in the sector: Patricia Moreira (president of CEAGA), Consuelo Domínguez (Plant Director at GKN Driveline Vigo), Josefina Alonso (operations director at DIFGIGAL), and Ana Paul (director of technological innovation at CTAG).

During the discussion, the challenges and progress in the inclusion of female talent in a historically male-dominated sector were addressed.

The speakers shared their experiences and strategies for promoting a more diverse and equitable industrial environment—an objective we also strongly support.

Pitch Clubs: the young perspective

One of the most inspiring moments was the series of “Pitch Clubs” led by students from the Escola de Enxeñería Industrial. Teams such as CES Uvigo, Uvigo Spacelab, Uvigo Motorsport, and Uvigo Aerotech presented their innovation projects.

From developments in autonomous vehicles to space robotics applications, the students demonstrated creativity and vision that point to a bright future for engineering in Galicia.

We applaud these efforts and consider it essential to support initiatives that foster young talent in the sector.

AER working groups presentations

During the event, AER working groups and committees shared their progress in areas such as safety, regulation, and the evolution of robotics standards.

As AER members, we deeply value these discussion spaces, which allow us to address relevant topics for our work and future development.

Technology and humanism: an in-depth debate

Another highlight was the debate “Technology and humanism: the challenge of the new era,” moderated by journalist Aureli Vázquez, with the participation of figures such as Javier G. Recuenco, entrepreneur and writer, and Jordi Vallverdú, PhD in Philosophy.

The discussion focused on the role of robotics and artificial intelligence in a humane and ethical society.

At Binarial, we recognize the importance of these topics, as our philosophy not only embraces technological innovation but also the synergy between machines and people.

The day concluded with a gala dinner at the Hotel Pazo Los Escudos, where connections with other industry stakeholders were strengthened and ideas for future projects were exchanged.

The AER 6th Summit was an enriching experience that reaffirms our commitment to innovate and actively contribute to the advancement of robotics in Spain.
